Intern – IOT
Intern or GET
Hyderabad, Telangana, India
About
The intern will support the avionics and systems engineering teams in developing IoT-based connectivity and telemetry infrastructure for the aerostat and ground systems. The role involves working on sensor integration, edge data collection, wireless communication, and cloud or local dashboards for real-time monitoring of tether tension, payload health, environmental conditions, and system stability.
Description
The intern will gain hands-on experience in sensor-to-cloud data flow, edge computing, LoRa / 5G / MQTT communication, and AI-ready data pipelines for defence-grade IoT networks.
We are seeking a passionate and research-oriented Intern to contribute to our 5G and 6G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) initiatives. The role involves exploring next-generation connectivity architectures integrating satellite, aerial (HAPS/balloon), and terrestrial networks. The ideal candidate will have exposure to Software Defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), IoT/M2M systems, Edge Computing, Communication Cloud architectures, and data-driven optimization frameworks.
IoT Architecture & Sensor Network Integration
o Design and prototype IoT sensor nodes for monitoring parameters like envelope pressure, temperature, tether tension, motor current, and vibration.
o Interface various sensors (IMU, GPS, load cells, weather modules, pressure & gas sensors) with microcontrollers or SBCs.
o Assist in developing a low-power, long-range telemetry network using LoRa, NB-IoT, or 5G modules.
o Work with control and embedded teams to ensure synchronized data logging across multiple subsystems.
Edge Data Processing & Communication
o Configure and program edge devices (Raspberry Pi, ESP32, or Jetson Nano) to collect, preprocess, and transmit data securely.
o Implement real-time telemetry streaming using MQTT, HTTP, or WebSocket protocols.
o Develop firmware for data compression, filtering, and buffering during intermittent connectivity.
o Integrate AI-based edge analytics modules (for anomaly detection or early fault prediction).
Cloud / Dashboard Development
o Build IoT dashboards for live monitoring of flight and system parameters.
o Visualize telemetry (altitude, pressure, wind, tether tension, motor temperature, etc.) on Grafana, Node-RED, or custom web dashboards.
o Support the development of secure APIs for data access and sharing with AI/ML analytics teams.
System Testing & Validation
o Participate in ground and tethered flight trials, instrumenting systems for data acquisition.
o Verify end-to-end connectivity, latency, and packet loss across IoT communication links.
o Debug sensor and communication issues during field testing.
Documentation & Reporting
o Prepare documentation for IoT architecture, firmware workflows, and data schemas.
o Record network configurations, sensor calibrations, and interface control documents (ICDs).
o Support compliance with cybersecurity and data-handling protocols for defence projects.
