Intern – Mechanical Systems (Mobile Platforms)

Intern or GET

Hyderabad, Telangana, India

About

We are seeking a passionate and research-oriented Intern to contribute to our 5G and 6G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) initiatives. The role involves exploring next-generation connectivity architectures integrating satellite, aerial (HAPS/balloon), and terrestrial networks. The ideal candidate will have exposure to Software Defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), IoT/M2M systems, Edge Computing, Communication Cloud architectures, and data-driven optimization frameworks.

Description

Vehicle Integration & Design
• Assist in the mechanical design and layout of the road-mobile platform capable of operating up to 15,000 ft AMSL with full aerostat system payloads, winch, power generators, and control units.
• Support development of foldable, vibration-isolated, and shock-damped mounts for radar, communication, and control subsystems.
• Participate in the design of deployment and retrieval mechanisms including winch assemblies, tethers, and mooring cradles ensuring less than 2-hour setup/mobility time.
• Develop structural models for load distribution, center of gravity optimization, and aero-mechanical stability during travel and deployment.
Mechanism Development
• Support creation of automated tether tension control and azimuth compensation mechanisms.
• Contribute to the design of hydraulic/electric actuation systems for lifting, leveling, and stabilization of aerostat launch platforms.
• Perform tolerance and fatigue analysis for rotating and load-bearing components under varying wind loads (up to 40 knots).
Testing and Validation
• Assist in conducting mobility, endurance, and vibration tests of the vehicle platform across terrain profiles.
• Document testing outcomes and contribute to system performance evaluations, safety compliance, and mobility certification reports.
• Support integration tests of power systems, radar mounts, and communication antennas on mobile platforms.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with Vehicle Integration, Electrical Control, and Tether Mechanism teams for synchronized design and operation.
• Support vendor coordination for mechanical fabrication, welding, and sub-assembly integration.
• Contribute to system documentation including CAD models, assembly drawings, and BOM preparation for prototype fabrication.

Requirements

Final-year or postgraduate student in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Desired

• Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, automotive systems, and structural dynamics.
• Experience in CAD/CAE software (SolidWorks, CREO, Fusion 360, or CATIA).
• Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in mobile platforms.
• Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and material selection for high-stress environments.
• Understanding of vehicle dynamics, chassis design, and suspension tuning.
• Exposure to system integration involving electromechanical and communication payloads preferred.
• Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to system-level problem-solving.
