Intern – Power Systems
Intern or GET
Hyderabad, Telangana, India
About
We are seeking a passionate and research-oriented Intern to contribute to work closely with the electrical, avionics, and systems engineering teams to design, develop, and test power systems. The role focuses on energy generation, storage, regulation, and power conditioning under near-space environmental conditions, including solar-powered and hybrid systems.
The intern will contribute to developing reliable, lightweight, and efficient DC power architectures, battery management systems (BMS), and solar energy solutions optimized for long-duration missions at high altitudes.
Description
Power Architecture Design
• Support the design of DC power distribution systems for onboard avionics, communication, and payload modules.
• Assist in defining power budgets, voltage rails, and load profiles for SPB and ALTIS platforms.
• Develop schematics and wiring layouts ensuring minimal loss, EMI protection, and modular expandability.
Energy Generation & Storage
• Work on solar power subsystem design, including panel sizing, array configuration, and maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms.
• Evaluate battery chemistries (Li-ion, LiFePO₄, solid-state, and hybrid systems) for temperature tolerance and energy density at stratospheric altitudes.
• Support development of hybrid energy systems combining solar, fuel cells, or tether-supplied power for continuous operation.
Power Conditioning & Regulation
• Design and test DC-DC converters, voltage regulators, and protection circuits for avionics and payload power.
• Assist in implementing Battery Management Systems (BMS) for monitoring state of charge, temperature, and protection features.
• Develop redundant power switching mechanisms to ensure uninterrupted supply during transient or fault conditions.
System Integration & Testing
• Integrate power modules with avionics and communication systems on both balloon (VISTA) and aerostat (ALTIS) platforms.
• Participate in environmental testing — including thermal cycling, low-pressure validation, and endurance trials.
• Analyze power telemetry during test flights and provide recommendations for optimization.
• Verify tether-based power transfer efficiency and assess thermal management during prolonged operations.
Automation & Monitoring
• Work with IoT/AI teams to integrate real-time power monitoring systems and anomaly detection.
• Implement onboard scripts or microcontroller firmware to log voltage, current, and temperature data.
• Support development of ground-based dashboards for live energy analytics during missions.
Documentation & Compliance
• Prepare technical documentation, including power architecture diagrams, component datasheets, and test reports.
• Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) for electrical components and wiring harnesses.
• Support safety reviews for electrical design compliance with aerospace standards (short-circuit, insulation, and thermal runaway prevention).
Requirements
Final-year or postgraduate student in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
