About

The Business Development (BD) Associate will play a key role in expanding Red Balloon Aerospace’s footprint in the high-altitude platforms sector, including VISTA (stratospheric balloons), ALTIS (aerostats), and Cargo Airships. The role combines strategic business development, proposal management, and technical-commercial analysis. The candidate will be responsible for writing and submitting proposals to government agencies, telecom operators, and commercial clients, while also shaping business models that align with emerging markets such as Direct-to-Device connectivity, EO/ELINT, and aerospace logistics.

Description

Proposal Development & Management
• Draft, structure, and submit technical and commercial proposals to government agencies, enterprises, and telecom customers.
• Coordinate with technical teams to prepare project documents, compliance matrices, and financial estimates.
• Track RFPs, tenders, and grant opportunities; ensure timely submission with competitive positioning.
Business & Commercial Modeling
• Develop and refine business models, pricing strategies, and go-to-market approaches for Red Balloon’s products and services.
• Conduct cost-benefit and ROI analysis for projects, ensuring financial sustainability.
• Support fundraising activities by preparing business cases and investor decks.
Telecom & Satellite Market Engagement
• Build a strong understanding of the telecom ecosystem, MNO requirements, and D2D connectivity models.
• Identify partnership opportunities with telecom operators, ISPs, and satellite service providers.
• Conduct market research on competitors, pricing benchmarks, and adoption trends in the HAPS / aerostat / satellite communications industry.
Technical-Commercial Support
• Work with engineering teams to calculate satellite link budgets and ensure proposals are technically sound.
• Translate technical details into clear business value propositions for clients.
• Support in preparing regulatory, licensing, and frequency allocation documentation with relevant authorities.
Business Development & Outreach
• Engage with government agencies, industry bodies, and commercial clients to generate new opportunities.
• Participate in domestic and international exhibitions, industry events, and delegations.
• Support client presentations, demos, and stakeholder engagements.
Internal & Cross-functional Support
• Collaborate with finance, legal, and engineering teams for contracts, NDAs, MoUs, and SLAs.
• Maintain CRM systems, opportunity pipelines, and BD dashboards.
• Provide weekly progress reports and forecasts to management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Business, Aerospace, Telecom, or related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in business development, strategy, or proposal writing in aerospace, telecom, or defense sector.
• Strong grasp of business models, pricing, and financial analysis.
• Basic understanding of telecom technologies, satellite communications, and link budget calculations.
• Excellent proposal writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment with cross-functional collaboration.

Desired

• Familiarity with grant writing, RFP responses, and government procurement.
• Knowledge of frequency spectrum, regulatory policies, and ITU/DoT processes.
• Analytical skills in market sizing (TAM, SAM, SOM) and competitive benchmarking.
• Networking ability with government stakeholders, industry associations, and investors.
