About
We are seeking a passionate and research-oriented Intern to contribute to avionics and AI teams in analyzing radar and flight telemetry data to support system performance assessment, calibration, and model development.
This role focuses on building data pipelines, performing statistical and machine-learning analysis on radar tracks, tether dynamics, and flight parameters, and generating insights that improve aerostat stability, communication performance, and situational awareness.
The intern will work closely with radar engineers, AI developers, and test engineers to interpret large datasets collected during ground and flight tests.
Description
Data Collection & Management
• Acquire, organize, and manage datasets from radar systems, GNSS, IMU, and environmental sensors.
• Design structured data pipelines for real-time and offline analytics using Python or ROS-based frameworks.
• Ensure data quality, synchronization, and labelling for subsequent model training.
Radar & Telemetry Data Analysis
• Analyze radar range, Doppler, and angle data to evaluate detection, tracking accuracy, and clutter performance.
• Support radar calibration by comparing measured targets with ground-truth flight trajectories.
• Conduct statistical analysis on flight parameters (altitude, drift, wind correlation, and tether load).
Machine Learning & Predictive Analytics
• Develop baseline ML models for flight behaviours prediction, anomaly detection, and environmental impact assessment.
• Assist in feature extraction and preprocessing for AI models used in system stabilization and automation.
• Visualize trends and anomalies in radar and aerostat performance using dashboards or Jupyter notebooks.
Performance Evaluation & Reporting
• Prepare data-driven reports summarizing radar performance, payload stability, and control system responsiveness.
• Identify correlations between weather data, radar returns, and aerostat drift for algorithm improvement.
• Present analytical findings during design reviews and internal technical meetings.
Integration & Testing Support
• Support test campaigns by instrumenting sensors and verifying telemetry during ground and tethered flights.
• Participate in post-flight data reduction and generate insights for subsequent mission planning.
Requirements
Final-year or postgraduate student in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Desired
• Programming: Python (NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciPy)
• Machine Learning: Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch (basic level)
• Data Visualization: Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, or Dash
• Signal Processing: MATLAB, SciPy-Signal, or equivalent tools
• Databases: SQL / InfluxDB / ROS bag analysis
• Domain Familiarity: Radar systems, telemetry, flight dynamics (preferred but not mandatory)
